About whiplash & neck injury

A neck injury is any injury affecting the top part of the spine or the area between the head and the clavicles (collarbones). Neck injuries vary from very minor to extremely severe. By far, most common neck injury is whiplash.

Whiplash is a minor neck injury, usually associated with road traffic accidents. It is caused by a sudden movement of the head in one direction (often followed by another rapid, opposite movement).

During whiplash, muscles and soft tissue in the neck are subjected to unusual stretch and strain, causing painful injury, which normally lasts several weeks (up to a few months), but sometimes may last even longer and have more severe consequences.

Symptoms of whiplash may include pain and tenderness in the neck area, stiffness (restriction of mobility), headaches and sometimes also pain in shoulders area (shoulder belt).

Serious neck injuries

Other types of neck injury include herniated (slipped) cervical disc and cervical spondylosis (which may cause pain and stiffness in neck and shoulders, as well as headaches).

In most severe cases, the neck injury may result in fractures to the vertebrae. This type of injury can seriously affect one’s mobility and quality of life, leaving them permanently paralysed.

In such a case, the compensation amount may reach several hundred thousand pounds, so it is essential to obtain professional, expert advice and comprehensive legal assistance in pursuing a claim.
